Hickory for photographers
Hickory vs Outsourcing Album Design — Minutes and No Invoice, or Days and $144
Sending albums out to a design service is the sensible move when your time is worth more than the fee. It also means roughly $144 an album, a few days of turnaround, and a revision round by email. Hickory attacks the same problem from the other end: the draft comes back in minutes and you make the changes yourself, immediately.
Start with an event you’ve already delivered. No new shoot required.
The trade you're making
A human designer brings taste and will interpret a brief. Our engine brings speed and consistency, and it never gets busy in October. For a flagship wedding album, a designer may still be the right call. For the parent copies, the session books, the team books and everything else you currently decline, waiting three days and paying a fee kills the sale.
Revisions stop being a round trip
With an outsourced design, a change is an email and another wait. In Hickory the draft opens in an editor you control — swap the photo, move the spread, change the cover, done in the same sitting. No revision rounds, no per-change fees.
And it sells the book too
A design service hands back a layout; you still have to get it printed and get paid. Hickory carries it through: the client buys the book inside your gallery, and it drop-ships to them in 7–14 days with your studio's name on the box.

Questions photographers ask
Is an AI draft as good as a human designer?
For a flagship wedding album with a specific creative brief, a good designer is still a good designer. For volume companion books, the draft plus fifteen minutes of your editing beats waiting three days — mostly because those books otherwise never get made at all.
Can I use both?
Yes. Send the flagship album out; run everything around it through Hickory.
What does Hickory cost?
Opening a studio is free — set one up, upload a gallery, and look at the book it drafts before you pay us anything. You set the retail price your client sees, and you keep what's left after print cost: a 36-page hardcover lands at $20.50 for a single copy with US shipping included. We have not set a studio subscription price yet, so we are not going to post one. The pricing page has the full cost breakdown and a form to be told first when the number is decided.
